Back in the day when the Republicans controlled both houses as well as the Presidency, a period that might well go down in history as a modern-day Dark Ages or Reign of Terror, the Fox News channel was considered to be the bastion of credible news. MSNBC is a news channel that is produced as a joint venture, as the name suggests, between Microsoft (the monolithic software giant founded by Bill Gates) and NBC. Their lineup of news shows supposedly offers us the alternative to Fox News, but, as implied by Keith Olbermann, what they are really offering us is left-wing propaganda that panders to the Obama administration. The tragic consequence of all this government pandering and institutional propaganda is that the number-one casualty in mainstream news coverage is credibility. The reality-at least two of the so-called major news organizations are dedicated to producing partisan propaganda that pretty shamelessly panders to politicians while the third is increasingly resorting to the Blogsphere to provide its news sources. Microsoft 's Research, which was founded in 1991 by the company, has put out 16 predictions for the year 2016, which also marks 25 years of the unit. Microsoft Research looks at futuristic technology that might one day be a reality. Here's a look at the 16 predictions put out by Microsoft Research ‘s key team members. He adds that 2016 will be the year that rural connectivity takes off in India and significant portions of India come online. More sensors, Scientific Breakthrough: Jeannette Wing Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Research, has two predictions for 2016. Microsoft launched its much-awaited Windows 10 operating system in July, designed to work across laptops, desktop and smartphones, as part of Nadella's push towards winning back lost ground in the tablets and mobile arena. The new Office 2016 apps are available in 40 languages and require Windows 7 or later versions. Starting Tuesday, Office 365 subscribers can choose to download the new Office 2016 apps as part of their subscription, Microsoft said. On a cultural level, Microsoft is to open more channels of communication with its cloud users through updates such as this. Before the tenth release of BizTalk Server, in Q4 2016, it will release a Community Technology Preview and a beta of the product in Q3. BizTalk Server 2016 is to align with Windows Server 2016, SQL 2016, Office 2016 and the latest Visual Studio. BizTalk Server will also have better interfaces with and Office 365, as Microsoft bids to improve the hybrid experience. Halfway through 2016 Microsoft will host another integration summit, Integrate 2016, as the vendor signals its intent to take its Integration platform as a service (iPaaS) responsibilities seriously too. According to the roadmap Microsoft should imminently release a preview of a planned Logic Apps Update with Logic Apps becoming generally available in Q2. Azure Stack will be available in Q4. Now in its ninth year, the annual Partner Awards exist to recognise excellence in the IT sector from companies that integrate Microsoft solutions into their products and services to accelerate innovation and go above and beyond customer expectations. For the 2016 awards, the ‘Pre-Sales Technical Specialist of the Year' has been incorporated into the ‘Sales Specialist of the Year' and Microsoft has introduced a ‘Partner Seller of the Year' award. Submissions for the Microsoft Partner Awards close on 11 February 2016, and finalists will be announced on Thursday, 3 March 2016. The winners will be announced at the evening event on Thursday, 31 March 2016 which will be held at The Langham in Auckland. A blog platform typically circumvents the traditional 'red tape' that can slow the delivery of news from syndicated sites. Let's look at both the pros and cons associated with any news or information that is dispensed from a blog platform as opposed to a regulated news site. Syndicated news sites contain information that tends to 'stagnate' since updates are far and few in between. Lacking the regulations of syndicated sites that slow down the process of dispensing news or information blogs have the ability to reflect 'real time' information. Being blogs are independent entities allows them to share their insights on the news and information they deliver. An unregulated blog platform can easily present information or news that leans heavily towards the authors' personal opinions or perspective. Being unregulated or unmonitored for news worthiness a certain expectation of unreliability does exist and therefore must be tolerated and expected. Today Mike Nichols, Corporate Vice President Of Marketing For Xbox, outlined some of Microsoft goals for their next-gen console in 2016 and confirmed that hundreds of old games will be rendered workable on the Xbox One. With great new games, hundreds of additional titles coming to Xbox One Backward Compatibility, a wave of investments in Xbox and gaming on Windows 10, new Xbox Live updates and features for the console including Cortana on Xbox One, 2016 is shaping up to be an even bigger year for gamers. Nichols also supplied a list of 2016 exclusive games fans can look forward to that have been announced for Xbox One and Windows 10. We'll also bring even more updates to all versions of Minecraft in 2016 and we have new title reveals in store for gamers too,” Nichols added. How fast Microsoft can fix the limited field of view issue, and continue to iterate on the hardware remains to be seen, but even if there is a widely available HoloLens version one by Christmas, it's going to be just that, version one. We do hope to see and hear a lot more about HoloLens by mid-year or so, however, and Microsoft needs to keep the pressure up with HoloLens , too or face getting lapped by the other players in the market. Yes, we'll see a Surface phone in 2016, and we may see Microsoft move to the Surface brand as their premium smartphone brand, leaving Lumia for low and mid-range devices. But Chris Capossela is right, Microsoft needs to break through” with mobile, to open a new generation of mobile computing and not just try to catch up with iOS and Android. Microsoft needs to find itself on the leading edge of the next generation of mobile. Only now Microsoft is more of a services company, and in 2016, the company needs to make sure its 1st party apps are world class, and not variations on the age old hello world” app demonstrations. Microsoft needs to get OneDrive working, get it working well, and offer it as a compelling alternative to the likes of Box and Dropbox. Microsoft will continue to build on cloud computing , tools, and Office subscription offerings in the new year, and we'd like to see some big news come out of each of these verticals in 2016. The Office 2016 apps run beautifully on the best Windows ever, including the new Sway for Windows 10 to create shareable, interactive stories that look great on any screen. Office 365 Groups are now an integrated part of the Outlook 2016 client app and available on your favorite mobile device through the Outlook Groups app, delivering a consistent team experience across the suite. We are proud to announce that Craig Dewar , Senior Director of Product Marketing in the Windows division at Microsoft Corporation, will be hosting a keynote on Windows 10 is made for Enterprises”. TechDays 2016 will take place February 29 and March 1st in the Trafo congress center in Baden. IT pros and developers can get up to speed on the latest news and trends in the industry. And of course they'll meet with peers and some of the best speakers and specialists from Microsoft and its partners. Instead, I'd like to talk about what should be done in 2016 by five of the biggest companies — to make your everyday digital life better. Oh, and to repeat a wish I expressed in an earlier column , 2016 should be the year Google starts building its own smartphones. The dominant digital hardware company needs to use 2016 to get a better handle on its software. So, for 2016, I'd like Facebook to rethink the news feed in a major way, with a central focus on giving users greater control and a clearer understanding of how to exercise it. I'm as excited as anyone to see the new gadgets, apps and services that 2016 will bring, especially after a relatively unexciting year in 2015 But I also think the big five platform companies, the ones without big booths at CES, can can still make products and services we all rely on so much better than they are today. Microsoft has also solved the cross-platform problem as all the users need not use the app itself but open the file in a browser-based version of the app. In addition, although the new Office is cloud-based, Microsoft has allowed the software to sit on the local computer's hard disk or memory in order to allow users to take full advantage of all the new options available in the software suite. Microsoft Office 2016 is available for subscription starting at $6.99 per month through Office 365, or for purchase ($149 for the student version, or $229 for the business version) on both Windows and Mac. In plain English, you can now run Windows Server 2012 R2 and 2016 together to allow for a gradual rollout of the new deduplication version. These changes in Windows Server 2016 excite me because it shows that Microsoft didn't phone this one in. Despite its new focus on the cloud , Microsoft knows that on-premises deployment of Windows Server is going to continue for quite some time. Rather than competing with itself in terms of the infrastructure location (on-prem vs. cloud), Microsoft is working on a solid new server release that benefits both worlds. We will probably see one more technical preview before the production version of Windows Server 2016 ships later this year - and I'm looking forward to it. Unfortunately, that's left fans of the ReCore announcement trailer with a bit of a news vacuum. Be sure to check back with and follow Scott on Twitter for additional ReCore coverage throughout 2016 and for as long as Comcept supports ReCore in the months following launch. Microsoft will retire several versions of its Internet Explorer browser as well today. Microsoft will deploy a special update on versions of Windows that have older versions of the browser installed even though a newer version is available. It is followed by distribution information listing how Microsoft Windows operating systems and other Microsoft products are affected this month. The next part lists all security bulletins released by Microsoft on this January Patch Day, as well as security advisories and updates, and non-security updates released by the company since December 2015's Patch Day. Other Microsoft products affected by security issues in January 2016 are Silverlight, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Exchange and versions of SharePoint. The reason why Windows 10 is affected by another bulletin as the only client system is because of its two system browsers Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge. All versions of Microsoft Office, as well as other Microsoft products such as Silverlight or Exchange Server are affected by vulnerabilities. The vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted webpage using Microsoft Edge. This security update resolves a vulnerability in the VBScript scripting engine in Microsoft Windows. The most severe of the vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Microsoft Office file. Update for Windows 7 ( KB2952664 ) - Compatibility update for upgrading Windows 7. This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Window. Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows RT, and Windows Server 2012 ( KB3133431 ) - This update resolves a problem in which Adobe Flash Player does not load correctly in applications that are running in Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge and that have Flash Player embedded. Since Windows Update does not check in realtime for updates, you may want to run a manual check for updates as soon as Microsoft releases patches on Patch Tuesday. Alternatively, you may download all patches released for all versions of Windows by downloading security ISO images that Microsoft makes available , directly from Microsoft's Download Center where they are made available individually, or by using third-party tools. An overview of all Microsoft Security Bulletins that the company released in January 2016 for its Windows operating system and other products. Microsoft did not update its website in time for the article to reflect these updates. It has since then become one of the most popular tech news sites on the Internet with five authors and regular contributions from freelance writers. They note that Microsoft has been slow to fix some of the bugs, which include trackpad issues, display issues, and even keyboard issues (for some). According to ExtremeTech , Microsoft has acknowledged general problems with both the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4. They have suggested that for one of the issues (the Sleep” mode doesn't work properly and drains the battery), users should put their devices on Standby” instead. Microsoft assures they are working on fixes for all of the bugs, but hasn't given consumers a timetable yet on when the problems will be fixed. The MacBook Pro 13-inch Retina had some problems when it was released in late 2012, but Apple fixed those issues a lot sooner than Microsoft has fixed the Surface Book issues. It's great news for developers who still need to target older browsers — not needing to worry about whether or not modern CSS works in these browsers is a dream, and it's much closer with this move. As we close a record 2015 for Xbox, there is even more in store for gamers in 2016. You are our inspiration and the soul of Xbox, and we look forward to sharing even more great gaming experiences with you in 2016. Updated on 12-28-2015 by Julian Chokkattu: Added in news of Microsoft's Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela mentioning information of a new device the company is hard at work on. The old Surface Phone was apparently part of Nokia's plans, which may have been scrapped when Panay took charge of the Devices division at Microsoft earlier this year. It is supposedly working with Microsoft to make x86 apps (Windows desktop apps) compatible with the Surface Phone. For now though, none of this is official, and everything could change again between now and the possible late 2016 release. For example, according to a report from Windows Mobile Power User , Microsoft may have wanted to launch a Surface phone in late 2015 or in early 2016. The publication's sources say it would have been marketed under the name of Microsoft Surface Mobile, and being developed under the codename Project Juggernaut Alpha. The Surface Phone remains far from official, but we'll keep you updated here with news and rumors about the device. Updated on 12-o3-2015 by David Curry: Added in rumors of new Surface Phone coming in the second half 2016. Longtime Microsoft buddy HP was also recognized for Best of CES with its HP Spectre x 360 while also walking away with awards for also having a great business laptop in the EliteBook Folio G1 Other HP awards include nods from ZDNet, Wall Street Journal and PC Mag. As many news outlets reported on, Samsung snatched a day of headlines with its Samsung Galaxy TabPro S and Notebook 9 While the Galaxy naming scheme may confusing some Android loyalist, the Windows 10 powered Galaxy TabPro S, along with the Notebook 9 were recognized as Best Tablet and Best of CES respectively.
This time, Microsoft is giving more advance notice, allowing customers to gain better awareness of the options, impacts and risks highlighted by the announcement. With the 2016 version of Windows Server, Microsoft is giving the Datacenter edition the edge with an Azure-inspired networking stack and Azure-inspired storage enhancements, including Storage Spaces Direct. From the licensing point of view, the big news is the change from processor-based licensing to core-based licensing for Windows Server 2016 (Cores + CAL). Windows Server 2016 licenses will be offered in 2-core packs, therefore the minimum requirement is four 2-core packs per processor, and eight 2-core packs per server. Microsoft is using a core-to-processor ratio of 8:1 in setting its pricing and minimum licensing requirements. For both Windows Server and System Center, the price of 16 core licenses of version 2016 will be same price as the 2 processor license for the corresponding editions version 2012 R2. This means that, for customers who deploy Windows Server and System Center on servers with up to 8 cores per processors, licensing costs remain consistent with the current model. In October 2015, Microsoft announced a new benefit that allows customers with active SA on Windows Server licenses to upload their Windows images to Azure and pay only the compute rates for the Microsoft cloud platform service. The preview documents published by Microsoft (see the resources section below) give a high level detail of the licensing requirements and rights, but some of the finer details are still missing. No clear indication was given on renewing Software Assurance for a number of cores per processor in excess of 8. We expect that Microsoft will make options available to renew SA on all physical cores, subject to the customer creating and retaining an inventory report to show its eligibility. We also expect this option to be available for a limited time only, consistently with the approach Microsoft took following the move from Server to 2-processor licenses in 2012. There are a number of ways to make it easy for them to sign up. You can provide buttons for numerous news reader outlets, like Yahoo! You will have to get the URL for your news feed and use that to create a button that allows people who are familiar with these larger online news feeds to subscribe to your content. You have to be clear that whatever you package in the RSS feed package is one topic or focal point of interest for specific news outlets. Or, you can split up the feeds into discrete industries that you can market to specific news outlets. Others are websites that allow you to set up an account and use them to read news feeds. You just search for categories of news that area available as RSS feeds and then choose to see them. The first two critical patches fix a number of security vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge respectively. Though one of the vulnerabilities was publicly disclosed, Microsoft said it wasn't aware of any attacker exploiting the flaw. Microsoft Edge, the new browser exclusive to Windows 10, also gets updated with a cumulative update. MS16-004 fixes a series of memory corruption vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office, which could allow an attacker to take over an affected system by exploiting a flaw in how the suite opens and modifies documents. The good news is that the user would have to be tricked into opening the file, such as through a suspicious spam email. The vulnerability is especially problematic for users visiting websites that utilize banner-ads on websites that are affected, but the good news is that Microsoft said it was unaware of any attacker attempting to currently exploit the flaw. Microsoft explains that Internet Explorer 11 offers increased security and better performance than its predecessors. The Redmond, Wash.-based firm is also touting the benefits of the Microsoft Edge browser, which features on the Windows 10 operating system. Additionally, Edge can launch Internet Explorer 11 for sites that need better backward compatibility, according to Microsoft. Microsoft says that Windows 10, which was launched last year, is now on 200 million devices worldwide. He noted, though, that overal the first security bulletin of 2016 was fairly low in number, although it still contained important fixes. Microsoft also ended support for the three-year-old Windows 8 this week, meaning that users are now forced to make the jump to 8.1 or Windows 10 to keep receiving security updates and stay protected against malware, spyware and viruses. Also of note on the Microsoft side is an advisory deprecating the SHA-1 hashing algorithm and product end of lifes for Internet Explorer and Windows XP Embedded,” said Chris Goettl, product manager with Shavlik. For example, Microsoft knows that over 44.5 billion minutes have been spent in Microsoft Edge across Windows 10 devices over the last month. One, led by Forbes and BetaNews , claims that this amounts to spying of the highest order, and condemns Microsoft for embarking on such a program. The sixth season of the show, based on the books by George R.R. Martin, will debut on April 24th, 2016. Let us know your thoughts on the Tech News of the day by posting to the comments section below. Tech News Digest is a daily column paring the technology news of the day down into bite-sized chunks that are easy to read and perfect for sharing. Nothing that you have reported Microsoft as saying, in any way demonstrates that they are spying on or have an interest in individuals, or that this data collection can be or is being related to individuals. I guess the same can be said of us, but I trust my bosses here more than I trust Microsoft. First, Microsoft appears committed to continuing to increase its cash distributions. All told, excluding its '03 special dividend, Microsoft has increased its dividend at an annual rate of roughly 12% annually. Especially with Microsoft's cash and short-term investments balance likely to surpass $100 billion in its upcoming quarterly report, the stage is set for an almost assured increase in its dividend in 2016. However, the outlook for Microsoft as a company over the long term isn't as clear. Microsoft has made progress under CEO Satya Nadella, but in terms of its broader investment outlook , the company still must overcome some hurdles in to remain relevant in our increasingly mobile and cloud-centric world. On the cloud side of the business, Microsoft has blossomed into an industry power second to only Though ex-CEO Steve Ballmer has slammed Microsoft's cloud disclosure, the company appears well positioned to profit from one of this generation's most central computing themes, even if we don't have great insight into the current margin structure of this evolving reporting segment. Playing to enduring PC strength, Microsoft made a decision to create a single, unified experience from desktop to mobile on Windows 10, and it was a good move that should help it on the margin. So while you can pretty much take it to the bank that Microsoft will increase its dividend in 2016, investors will need to reconcile its prodigious payouts with some of the other issues facing its core business. But now that Microsoft has promised to ship builds at a faster pace, everyone is eager to get their hands on updates as soon as possible. The next builds of Windows 10 are expected to include early access to such features, as Microsoft wants to get feedback on them before rolling them out to the public. Prodigy Learning, in partnership with Microsoft and Certiport, will host the first ever BETT Show Certification Centre in January 2016. BETT Show attendees will have the opportunity to schedule and sit Microsoft certification exams at NO COST. Users would be able to slide the tile to read more news in a news app, stop playing a song, or skip to another song. The card, news of which was first unveiled by TheNextWeb , would connect via an app already available in the Microsoft store to a data network, the publication reported. While the Cellular Data app is free, users will have to pay for the network connection using their Microsoft account information, the app description reads. The rumour comes from NokiaPowerUser , later reported by Neowin , citing an anonymous source who claims Microsoft will make some announcements around Windows 10 Mobile on that date. Microsoft still plans to bring Windows 10 Mobile to the following devices - Lumia 430, 435, 532, 535, 540, 635 (1GB), 640, 640 XL, 735, 830, 930. Others rumours, reported by Neowin , suggest that Microsoft wants to extend Cortana's reach across Windows 10 applications like Office 365 with its Redstone update. Indeed, it's already known that at the beginning of 2016 Windows 10 will become a recommended update, meaning anyone who has their system set to automatically accept recommended updates - the safest option for most people, as these updates are normally bug fixes and security patches - could find themselves being asked to complete the installation process, rather than choosing to start it themselves. In a posting on its website, it said that from 12 January 2016, only IE11 will be fully supported on Windows 10, 8.1 and 7. This means that IE9 users on Windows Vista (the most recent version for that OS) will only receive security fixes until that OS stops being supported by Microsoft. Prior to this, users of Windows 7 or 8.1 first had to complete a direct upgrade to the new OS, allow it to be verified by Microsoft and only then do a clean install and start from scratch. From then onwards, new PCs will be Windows 10 only according to the official Windows Lifecycle Factsheet Page as first noted by ZDNet Indeed, the death-knell for Windows 8 comes even earlier, with a cut-off date of 30 June 2016 listed. However, Microsoft will continue to support the operating systems with security updates and bug fixes until January 2020 for Windows 7, January 2023 for Windows 8/8.1, and October 2025 for Windows 10 July 2015 release - i.e. the current release, known also as Threshold 1. Microsoft also released an update for its line of Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book computers today that not only fixes display problems with the devices but teases about future functionality of Windows 10 itself, specifically in relation to the Surface Pen. To avoid this, users should block the update manually, but Microsoft strongly opposes this as it could leave PCs vulnerable to threats if automatic updates are disabled. Microsoft earlier hinted that extensions would be shipping alongside the Threshold 2 updated anticipated to be rolled out before the end of 2015. The Windows 10 Fall Update, as Microsoft calls it, will be distributed through Windows Update, and it will likely be delivered within the first week of November, according to The Verge. While Microsoft has been heavily promoting its new OS and strongly encouraging customers to upgrade, it has been an opt-in, rather than an opt-out process. Microsoft has also introduced the 12-inch Toshiba dynaPad, a high-end tablet that was first unveiled at IFA last month. How soon this actually could be is anyone's guess, but IT Pro would speculate that Microsoft could be moving to an annual update model, a la Apple OS X If correct, this would mean a new version of Windows 10 could be released in summer next year. However, Microsoft has neither confirmed nor denied these figures, preferring to keep its download numbers close to its chest. The partnership will be rolled out to 28 other geographies starting in early 2016. For 'Insider Program' users (with Build 10532 or later) in Canada, Australia and Japan, Microsoft has made Cortana available via an optional download. Microsoft will provide feature updates as time passes, I'm sure, so that the user experience becomes more consistent across applications. I plan on playing with this a lot and writing up my experiences separately from this article, as it is an interesting venture from Microsoft and deserves its own focus of work beyond this article. Microsoft refers to Delve as kind of an electronic business card where you can see details about yourself or a colleague and the documents you or they have worked on. I use it as a means to access documents quickly without needing to remember their folder location on your computer or within OneDrive for Business, but I suspect that there is a lot more to it than that. I run Office 2016 on a super cheap, but new, laptop containing a 1.7 GHz Intel i3 processor, with 4 GB RAM, running Windows 10 Pro, and Office runs just fine, no worse than Office 2013. At the time the Vista service pack is planned to get released in first quarter of 2008, alongside with this project in work, Microsoft has started building the contours of Windows 7. As earlier mentioned in this article, has announced the release date of Vistas replacement, the move is a deliberate attempt to try and force users into using Vista. Microsoft are currently working on implementing wireless network advances and include programs like Direct Connect, as component of the Windows 7 server edition. It will be very exciting to see what kind of new implement Microsoft will deliver to the next operating system, lets hope it will be as good or better than the newest current version of Windows, Windows Vista. Microsoft is said to be looking at a late 2016 launch for the new Xbox One, which would be sold in concert with current models akin to the slimmed down Xbox 360 S that launched five years after the original 360. MacRumors has reported on Microsoft for many years, as well as Samsung, Google, Dropbox, and many other competitors. The last time Microsoft overlooked Apple entering a market they were in, they got wrecked. The point I want to make, is that Microsoft can't beat Apple in the way it delivers many different kinds of content (instead of just one). With Microsoft putting Windows everywhere, devs would have more reasons to make games and apps for all of Microsoft's platforms. One Care Point owner, who asked not to be named, told Mobile News the move will be a major frustration to loyal Nokia/ Microsoft customers. Today, the company announced that it will be working with Microsoft to develop IoT devices based on Windows 10, where the companies will work together to develop products that will run on the platform, as well as integrate with other companies developing hardware and services on Microsoft's OS. Samsung and Microsoft working together is not completely new: the two have already been working together for some 30 years on Windows devices, Myerson noted on stage today. For one, Microsoft has not exactly been a winner in the last huge innovation in computing, smartphones: that honor has really gone to Google's Android and Apple, who dominate the smartphone space in terms of device penetration, financials and mindshare. On the other hand, we've heard a lot about tensions between Samsung and Google over Android and perhaps this news is one way of Samsung indicating that it's ready to dance with others if the occasion calls for it. The news of the IoT partnership made public at a keynote at the CES show in Las Vegas from Samsung's president of its business solutions unit, WP Hong, who also outlined Samsung's ambitions across all aspects of the IoT spectrum: as chip maker, device maker and service provider, part of the company's IoTivity” strategy. Myerson took the opportunity of being on stage to highlight a new Windows 10-based tablet, the Galaxy TabPro S , also announced here at CES, and drawing a link between it and the IoT news. With Windows 10, both companies wanted to do something great together, and we showcased the new Samsung Galaxy TabPro S, along with our shared vision for future innovation together across the entire Internet of Things,” Myerson noted in a Microsoft blog post about the new IoT deal. We asked Microsoft for more details about the extent of this partnership and will update the post once we hear back. Microsoft has been warning users to upgrade for some time but some believe that it has had the reverse effect - drawing users to rival browsers such as Firefox and Chrome. Joined forces with Microsoft in an attempt to compete with Google, which has a 66 % share of searches in North America and a 92 % share of searches in the UK according to a Hitwise survey published in July 2011. This merger is good news for advertisers as now there are only two instead of three advertising platforms in the domain of internet searches which they should have a profile on. Of course this is true mainly for North America. After Tuesday's updates, Microsoft will cease support for the 3 year, 2 month, and 17-day old operating system. Microsoft plans to discontinue almost all support for Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10. This issue only affects Windows 7 users who haven't upgraded to IE11, and Windows 8 users who must upgrade to Windows 8.1 or 10 to get the latest version of IE. Microsoft will end support for Vista in April 2017, which means the OS will cease receiving security updates all together—just like Windows 8 and XP.
